How Gear Ratios Are Calculated

Gear ratio is the relationship between driving and driven gear teeth:

Gear Ratio = Driven Teeth / Driving Teeth

Overall Ratio = Gear Ratio × Final Drive Ratio

Speed = (RPM × Tire Circumference) / (Overall Ratio × 336)

Example: 40/20 teeth = 2.000:1 gear ratio
