Tips & Best Practices

  • Puppies need short, frequent play sessions — not long walks that can damage growing joints.
  • Swimming is excellent low-impact exercise for senior dogs.
  • Mental stimulation (puzzle toys, training) counts as exercise too.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise in extreme heat — dogs overheat faster than humans.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Over-exercising puppies.

Puppies under 1 year should have short play sessions (5 min per month of age, twice daily). Long walks can damage growing bones and joints.

Skipping exercise for senior dogs.

Senior dogs still need daily exercise — just gentler and shorter. Regular movement prevents joint stiffness and maintains muscle mass.
