Formula Explanation

The old "multiply by 7" rule is inaccurate. Modern veterinary science uses different aging rates for the first 2 years and then a size-adjusted rate for subsequent years.

Year 1 = 15 human years Year 2 = +9 human years Year 3+ = +4 to +7 per year (by size)

Common Mistakes to Avoid

✅ A 1-year-old dog is roughly 15 in human years, not 7. The 7× rule significantly underestimates a young dog's maturity.

✅ Large and giant breeds age faster after maturity. A 10-year-old Great Dane is much older in human years than a 10-year-old Chihuahua.
