Daily Cost$0.84
Monthly Cost$25.20
Yearly Cost$306.60
kWh Per Day6.00 kWh

How to Use This Calculator

  1. 1Enter the appliance wattage in watts.
  2. 2Enter hours of use per day.
  3. 3Enter your electricity rate in cents per kWh.
  4. 4View daily, monthly, and yearly electricity costs.

Formula Explanation

Electricity cost is calculated by converting wattage to kilowatts, multiplying by hours of use, and then by your electricity rate.

Cost = (Watts ÷ 1000) × Hours × Rate per kWh

Variables:

WattsPower consumption of the appliance
HoursDaily usage in hours
RateElectricity price per kilowatt-hour

Worked Examples

1500W space heater, 8 hrs/day, $0.12/kWh

  1. 1. kW = 1500 ÷ 1000 = 1.5 kW
  2. 2. Daily kWh = 1.5 × 8 = 12 kWh
  3. 3. Daily cost = 12 × $0.12 = $1.44
  4. 4. Monthly cost = $1.44 × 30 = $43.20
Result: $1.44/day, $43.20/month, $525.60/year

Tips & Best Practices

  • The average US electricity rate is about 16 cents per kWh (varies by state).
  • LED bulbs use 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs.
  • Phantom loads (devices on standby) can add 5-10% to your electric bill.
  • Running appliances during off-peak hours may cost less with time-of-use plans.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Confusing watts and kilowatts.

Divide watts by 1000 to get kilowatts. A 1500W heater is 1.5 kW.

Not checking the actual wattage label on appliances.

Check the label on your appliance or its manual for actual wattage — online estimates may differ from your specific model.
