Tips & Best Practices

  • Caffeine has a half-life of 5-6 hours — avoid after 2 PM for better sleep.
  • Espresso has more caffeine per ounce but less per serving than drip coffee.
  • Decaf coffee still contains 2-15mg of caffeine.
  • Chocolate contains small amounts of caffeine too (about 12mg per ounce of dark chocolate).

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Not counting all caffeine sources.

Caffeine is in coffee, tea, soda, energy drinks, chocolate, some medications, and pre-workout supplements. Track everything.

Exceeding 400mg without realizing it.

Two large Starbucks coffees can put you at 600mg+. A single Venti drip coffee is about 415mg — already over the limit.
